You can create categories and add them in Your WordPress Menu in a few ways. You can assign a category to a post or make new ones, and you can change its name, as well as add a description, by editing the navigation block of the theme’s administration panel. Then, press Update to save the changes. If you’re using the Site Editor, you won’t have the Appearance – Menus section, but you can still edit the navigation block.
Create a new category
If you want to make it easier for readers to find the content on your WordPress blog, you can create custom categories. Category names are generally short, so you can use anything that applies to your site. Once you have a name for the category, you can then enter the Slug, or short form, which will appear in the URL. Make sure that it’s unique. Afterwards, press the Update button to save the changes.
Once you have a parent category, you can add subcategories, too. If your blog is about food, you might create subcategories like “Cakes” and “Pie” under the “Dessert” category. By default, your posts will be in the “Uncategorized” category, but you can change it if you want. Once you’ve added a subcategory, you can add more items to it.

Create a subcategory
How do you create a subcategory in your WordPress menu? You can add a widget block to your sidebar, footer, or widget area to display a list of categories. Once you’ve added a widget, you can change its name and display links. Once the widget is placed in its appropriate location, you can customize it to display subcategories of parent categories. For more information, see the following steps.
When creating a subcategory in WordPress, be sure to name it appropriately. Subcategories are usually useful for content that is divided into categories. For example, if your blog is about furniture, you might want to create subcategories under furniture, such as office desks and dinner tables. The easiest way to add a subcategory is from the WordPress admin panel. To add a new category, navigate to Appearance > Menus and click on Add New.
Create a parent category
When you create a new post on your WordPress website, you can assign it to a category. This is easy to do by going to the Add New/Edit Post screen and clicking on the Categories panel. Here, you can assign posts to various categories, add descriptions, and create sub-categories. The categories will appear on the right side of the category list. If you wish to edit or delete a post, you can add a parent category.
Once you have created a parent category, you can create a child category under it. Each child category will have a name and description. Click ‘Add New Category’ to add the new category. Click the Add New Category button to save your changes. If you’re new to WordPress, you can also add categories from the Posts menu. To do this, go to Categories > Add New, and then click on “Add New Category.”
Edit a parent category
You can use WordPress to create and edit categories on your website. To add a new category, go to Posts> Categories and click the + button. Then enter a name, slug, and description for your new category. Then click Save Changes. You’re now ready to assign your posts to new categories. To do so, click the + button on the category you want to change, and then click Edit to make the changes.
Once you’ve created the parent category, you can change the name and slug of the category. You can also delete an entire category, or delete just a parent category. You can also move posts within a category to reorganize its content. You can edit a parent category at any time by following the steps outlined in this article. If you’re unsure how to do this, take note of the following tips:
Delete a child category
You may have noticed that you’re unable to remove a child category from the WordPress menu after adding it to your site. However, there are two ways to delete a category. The first way is to select the parent category and click ‘Delete’. The second way is to go into your menu and click ‘Edit’. The process of creating and editing a category is the same.
Once you’ve added a category to your WordPress menu, you can delete it by going to the parent category and selecting “Delete”. You can do this by clicking on the dropdown selector. This will reveal the fields that you can edit. The only field that’s left is the Navigation Label. Here, you can change the name to something else that matches the content of your menu. Once you’ve done this, you can remove the category from your menu.
