If you want to add a header and footer in your document, then you should know how to add them in Word. You can add a page number, a date, or a repeating line of text to these elements. To add a header, click the Insert button and choose Header and Footer. If you do not want to use a header and footer, then you should choose Custom.
Customizing headers and footers
In Word 2007, the ability to customize headers and footers is built into the program. You can place headers and footers anywhere on your document and control how big they are. These options are located in the Header and Footer toolbar. Click the “Switch Between Header and Footer” button on the toolbar to switch between header and footer styles. You can also adjust the size of a header by clicking the box in the top or bottom right corner.

In Microsoft Word 2007, you can easily customize header and footer style by using style presets. Headers are typically set to all capital letters and a title that appears at the top. Headers and footers are customizable, but they require additional details. The options that you choose for each of these components can be applied to any page in your file. However, if you don’t want to change the header or footer title, you can simply type text in the header. You can also add custom information in a header, such as a date.
Adding a page number
In order to add a page number in the header or footer of a document, you can either add it to the top of the page or place it at the bottom of the document. Adding a page number to the header or footer replaces the text that was previously there. Adding a page number is best done before any other elements in the document. Go to the Insert tab in the ribbon and click the Page Number button in the Header & Footer group.
Next, choose the page number format you would like to use. You can choose the font, size, and color of the number. You can also manually input the page number. Once you have finished, click OK. The page number will then appear highlighted in the text box. If you want to customize the page number font and color, click on the Home tab. Then, click on the Format Page Numbers option in the Pages group.
Adding a date
To add a date to a header or footer in Microsoft Word, you must use the Insert menu. Then, find the Header and Footer group and press the Edit Header or Footer button. Next, select the Insert Date and Time option in the Ribbon menu. Select the date format that you want. You can change the format and insert it into the document like any other text.
In the Design tab, click on the “Date and Time” button. Choose a format for the date, and click OK. The date will now appear in your file. You can insert the first created date or the most recent saved date, whichever you prefer. You may also want to insert the time of the day. Depending on your preferences, you can insert a date in the header or footer, and then click the Save button.
Adding a repeating line of text
You may be wondering how to add a repeating line of text to a Word document. First of all, you should know that there are two ways of adding repeating text in a Word document. You can add a header to the first page, which is common for letterhead and other text at the start of a document. On the other hand, you might want to add a filename to the end of a document, but Word does not have a separate Last Page Header. To insert a Last Page Header, press Alt+Shift+P on the keyboard. This will insert a PAGE field that shows the actual number of pages between the first and last page.
The Header/Footer toolbar contains several useful AutoText fields. The “Filename” AutoText field is especially useful for adding repeating text to a document. You can use AutoText fields to add and format header and footer text, but be careful not to change the style of the body text. Then, you can use the Paste Special feature to paste the text into the header and footer.
